In October of last year Alger-Triton and Klem Group held its annual customer appreciation party for the Atlanta design community at Midtown's modern fish house, Lure Restaurant. The big twist on last year's party was the lighting design competition. Individuals were required to submit their ideas and design concepts as well as to create a design board inspired by an Italian or Brazilian theme. Each concept would be judged by guests at the party who were given a single wooden chip to vote for their favorite design. The first prize winner would not only receive bragging rights, but would be awarded $2500, a trip to the factory in Los Angeles, and a photo shoot with the fixture. Additionally, the fixture would become a feature product in the new Wired Designs line with the winner receiving 5% royalty off any sale. Second prize winner was awarded $500 and Third prize winners were awarded $150. A myriad of design boards clustered within the patio of the restaurant were oohed and awed at by colleagues and friends. There were approximately 18 entries for the design competition with fixtures deriving inspiration anywhere from Ipanema to the Amalfi Coast. The big winner was Katrina Kostik, with her "rock candy" inspired fixture. 2nd place honors went to Michelle Hanna and there was a three-way tie for 3rd place with honors going to Allison Isaacs, Jeremy Jones, and Kyi Gyaw. Katrina's fixture is currently being displayed in the Wired London showroom. It has been appropriately named the "Petra Ovo" in keeping in line with the ever-popular rock crystal fixtures offered in our Wired Designs line. The fixture has also recently been featured in Sleeper and Hospitality Design Magazines.
